Welcome to our site (updated 03/10/08).  Take a moment to read a description of APT Instrument's many services.

We sell famous Smiths Instruments, known throughout the world for their performance.  See our online catalog which features Cobra, Classic, Eclipse, Telemetrix, Mini Cooper, and other quality gauges, bezels and accessories.   Smiths savings sale - ask technician for details (5, 10 or 15 percent off)!

We recently added  two new "antique" 6 volt tachometers and 12 volt tachometers  in two styles to our sales.

Smiths new high performance MotorSport Tachometers are designed to perform in any vehicle. Features include RPM memory recall, programmable 3-state shift indicator lights, and 2 to 12 cylinder adjustable calibration.   Available from 8000  to 18000 RPM....now that's one high-revving tach!

We operate a complete instrument repair service and restoration facility with experienced, full-time and formally trained technicians.   We service and restore most makes and models, American or foreign, from 1890 to the present.   Digital, mechanical, analog or electronic speedometers, tachometers and small gauges for cars, trucks, boats, military and recreation vehicles, agricultural equipment, etc.  You can use your own custom design or our factory artwork on gauge face dials for kit cars, race cars and new car production.  No project is too small or too big.  Contact us for all your instrument repair, restoration and customizing needs.

We sell SuperPro race track tested tachometers, Jeep temperature gauges (now at greatly reduced price), and a small amount of Surplus Stock, including a few Mercedes clusters and radio dials

Automotive clocks can be converted to quartz or custom fabricated into a tachometer or other type gauge.   We do not repair clocks - just quartz clock conversions.

We provide cables and housings for just about any application except power seat cables and window cables.  We also offer Cable X, a simple solution for customers with a mechanical speedometer in a vehicle equipped with an electronic speedometer signal.

Custom ratio adapters are available for most vehicles.  We also offer an Electronic Speed Adapter (ESA) to correct a speedometer that's inaccurate due to a change in tire size or rear axle ratio.  The ESA is compatible with most cars and trucks and is a snap to install.

APT can make instrument glass lenses in various sizes (curved, convex or flat) and provides chroming or nickel plating services for bezels, knobs, and many other small parts.  We do not plate trim parts or bumpers.

Instructions have been provided here for conducting a Ratio Test which will tell you if your error is in the speedometer gauge itself or if it's caused by cable delivery from your transmission.  In general, if the tires or transmission, including differential, has been or will be altered, the ratio must be adjusted.

There's also a Troubleshooting Guide to help in identifying your gauge problems.

Pricing   We encourage your inquires about our services, but we cannot give you a quote on restorations or custom services until we see the gauges and determine the type of work and time required.  Every job is unique.  Please send us your instruments for an evaluation at no charge.  See our shipping and handling instructions before shipping.  We will contact you upon receipt to give you a firm quote, discuss with you exactly what you want, and give you an estimated turnaround time.

Remember, we service and restore gauges for automobiles, boats,  recreational vehicles, tractors, and industrial equipment, including:  AC Cobra, Acura, AMC (AMX, Eagle, Gremlin, Javelin, Pacer), Aston Martin, Audi, Austin (Mini Cooper, Morris Minor), Austin Healey (Sprite), BMW (Mini Cooper), Bugatti, Buick (Century, LeSabre, Park Avenue, Somerset), Cadillac (Allante, DeVille, Eldorado, Escalade, Seville), Chevrolet (Astro, Avalanche, Aveo, Blazer, Camaro, Caprice, Cavalier, Cobalt, Colorado, Corvette, Equinox, G1500, G2500, G3500, Impala, K1500, K2500, K3500, Lumina, Malibu, Monte Carlo, Silverado, SSR, Suburban, S10, Trailblazer, Venture), Chrysler (LeBaron, Sebring, Town & Country), Citroen, Daewoo, Daihatsu, Daimler, Dodge (Caravan, Dakota, Daytona, Intrepid, Shadow), Ferrari, Fiat, Ford (Aerostar, Crown Victoria, Edsel, Expedition, Ranger, Windstar, Taurus, Escort, F150, F250), Geo, GMC (Sierra, Sonoma, Yukon), Honda (Accord, Civic, Prelude), Hyundai, Infiniti, International Harvester, Isuzu (Rodeo, Trooper), Jaguar, Jeep (Grand Cherokee, Willys, Wrangler), Kaiser, Kia,  Land Rover, Lamborghini, Lexus, Lincoln (Aviator, Navigator, Town Car), Mazda, Mercury (Cougar, Grand Marquis, Mariner, Sable), MG/MGB, Mitsubishi (Eclipse, Galant), Mopar, Nash, Nissan (Altima, Maxima), Oldsmobile (Achieva, Bravada, Cutlass, Toronado Trofeo), Opel, Packard, Peugot, Plymouth (Barracuda, Breeze, Duster, Fury, Valiant), Pontiac (Grande Prix, Firebird, Bonneville, Sunfire), Porsche (911, Carrera), Renault, Saab, Saturn, Studebaker, Subaru (Forester, Outback), Sunbeam (Spitfire, TR Series), Suzuki (Aerio, Forenza), Toyota (Celica, Corolla, Tacoma, Tundra), Triumph (Spitfire, TR Series), Volkswagen (Beetle, Jetta, Rabbit), Volvo, Yugo and many other makes and models.
