6 VOLT TACHOMETER INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

We have designed and manufactured this tachometer to work on 4, 6 or 8 cylinder vehicles with 6 volt negative or positive earth/ground automotive type engines. It will operate on most ignition systems, including distributorless ones.

MOUNTING THE TACHOMETER

You can mount the tachometer on the steering column, on top of the dash or under the dash. If you choose to use the steering column, be sure that the tach=s positioning does not impair the movement of the column (primarily tilt steering models) or damage columns designed to collapse under car impact. Steering column mounting entails using a hose clamp from an auto parts or hardware store. Position the tachometer and tighten clamp. Trim off any excess clamp.

For top of dash mounting, you must drill two holes: one for the mounting leg (7/32") and one for routing of the tach wire leads (5/16"). Carefully examine area you plan to drill to make sure your drill will not hit any hidden electrical wires, hoses, etc.

For bottom of dash mounting, you must separate the chrome bezel from the can by pulling and twisting at the same time. It is a friction fit. Then loosen the screw at the back of the case, rotate tach face to desired position, and retighten the screw. Drill one 7/32" hole for mounting leg, being careful to inspect drilling site to make sure nothing but the dash is drilled. If necessary, drill a 5/16" hole for routing the tach wire leads.

WIRING

Before you begin wiring the tach, disconnect one of the battery cables. Remember to reconnect it once installation is complete.

For negative earth/ground vehicles, connect the black wire ideally to the negative battery terminal. If this is not possible, you may connect this wire to a clean unpainted chassis ground. Connect the red wire so that it is energized with battery voltage when the ignition is turned on. Be sure there is voltage when the ignition is on, and no voltage when the ignition is off. Connect either of the two white wires to an instrument panel light source and the other white wire to ground. Connect the green wire to the distributor (pulse) terminal of the vehicle=s ignition coil. Connect either of the two white wires to an instrument panel light source, and the other white wire to ground.

For positive earth/ ground systems, reverse the connections of the red wire and the black wire. All other wiring is the same as for negative earth/ground.
